We've Been Purdy Darn Busy!

Yes, I know I have not posted anything for a while, but we've been busy. I just like to take care of gardening, cooking, and cleaning, etc. But mostly I just like to play with Leah. I don't get that much time with her, so she was a priority this week, and the blogging world had to be put on the back burner. On Saturday, not only did Morgan, Andrew and Leah come to Ashotn, but so did Julie, Jamie and Peyton and Ethan. Sunday afternoon we had a family get together and dinner at Grandma and Grandpa Baum's house with everyone. It was nice to see and visit with Jamie and Julie and the boys. They are growing up too fast (the boys). And now I'm back in the blogging world with lots of pictures (thanks mostly to Morgan and Andrew) to show what we've been up to.

Leah in Grandma's newest gardening purchase. Actually it was a father's day present for Alan, but I knew that I would use it more, so I got one I liked.Leah trying to sit still on Zachary's little chair/stool. She was so excited she was snorting and almost hyperventilating. Sitting on the stool. What a big girl!

Up and down, up and down.
Leah with her cute little hat.

MMy garden is getting lots of sunshine and no rain. But we water it enough to keep it growing.
See! Some broccoli. Enough to make a broccoli and bacon salad. Yum! it was delicious.

Zack getting ready to move pipe. Which gloves should he wear? Mom's green ones or dad's blue ones?
All three getting ready to go. Notice Leah checking out Orangelo the cat.

Alan and his irrigation apron. GQ farmer.
Up at the Goldfarb place where Zack and Andrew were summer fallowing.
Wow! Morgan got a stunning picture of the Clark place and the Tetons in the background. Beautiful!

Leah just woke up after riding up to Squirrel. She's ready for lunch.
Lunch was barbeque sandwiches and tostitos and leftover apple dumplings from FHE the night before. Thanks to Lizzy's recipe, or pioneer woman. Great recipe!
Zack cathes the only fish at the Habekost place on the river. Panfried trout. It was tasty.

Leah is checking out the tubes that were to be used for floating the river. She did not go. She stayed home with Grandma.
Perfect place to keep Leah entertained. She couldn't hurt herself, just get really dirty.
Up close and personal.
The cherries were ripe and the robins were hungry. Andrew and Zack picked to buckets and we made them into cherry pies.
The pitted cherries. They sure were sour.

But made delicious pies. I have to say, my pie crusts get better every time I make them.

Popular eating choice. Even for breakfast.

This is almost the worst job I have ever undertaken here on the farm. It didn't last long, but it was bad. We cleaned out the dreaded, horrible, creepy shower house. There were some bad things up in the top (elk and sheep hides falling apart and spider webs, and spiders and really bad smells). But we did it, and you can see that the dump truck is full of weird and very old decaying stuff.
I'm so glad this job got done. Alan and I have never wanted to do it, but the whole family got together and tackled it. Way to go, FAM!
The strawberries were ripe, but instead of hungry robins eating them, there were hungry Mexicans stealing them. But I picked this many and . . .

Voila!,
6 pints of freezer jam!
Yay for grandma's freezer jam!
The next project was edging the flower beds.

The rock from the Castle Valley ranch. I think it looks at home here in Idaho. It seems to be saying, "At last, a nice green place where I can be for the rest of eternity. How wonderful to be the special rock chosen to go to Idaho and be in Shelley's garden."
After the edging project on Friday, we went to the ward picnic. Leah getting a snuggle from her Dad.
The week went fast because we were busy working because that's just how it is here. Alan and I went out to dinner tonight. We were exhausted from doing more edging and weeding and mowing lawns. It is quiet and calm and we are looking forward to having a nice peaceful sunday.

Well those are fabulous pictures.... I wonder if I should bother putting any on my blog considering you put them all on yours...I guess i'll just repeat my favorites. I just haven't had time to blog yet and who knows when I will. Thanks for letting us come up and take over but I'm sure you were willing to have us help out. It was fun! Zack's doing fine and will be going to Lagoon with us on Tuesday. We will talk to you soon.

I certainly understand how blogging went to the back burner. It seems that you had much fun. You even make the shower shed clean-up sound entertaining. Leah sure looks cute. I wish that I could see her again right now.

Just one silly question. Why is an apron needed when irrigating?

Anne Adele, It's not how you irrigate, its how you look when you irrigate. Alan thinks it adds a certain panache to his farming wardrobe.
Seriously, I thought everyone knew that pipe movers have to really dress up when they move pipe. He wears the apron, made out of waterproof materials so that when he carries the pipe it won't rub against his shirt and skin. It is to keep their clothes protected against dirt and wear. When they are totally decked out, it cracks me up because they have their boots pulled up, their aprons on and their special gloves. It's a special look that only the true pipe mover can pull off.

I wanna be a pipe mover. Can you hook me up with some rubber clothing. Seriously, cute pictures of Leah. I wish I had been there to see her sitting on the little chair. It was so cute.

It sounds like you guys had a busy, but fun week! I wish we could have stayed longer but reality calls (school, work, etc), but we had fun while we were there. It is always good to visit the farm and get out of the city for a couple days!

Lots of great pics! It was really good to see you guys! Too bad it couldn't have lasted longer, but too many people to see in too little time. We may be back in August, we'll see . . .
